Zurich is Switzerland’s centre of economic life and education. Located in the heart of Europe, the city offers all the modern amenities of a cosmopolitan metropolis, without sacrificing its natural side. Zurich has for years ranked among the world’s top cities in terms of quality of life. It is a boutique city that offers everything that implies, albeit in small and exquisite format. An economic hub, University City and boutique metropolis by the water offering a high quality of life: Zurich combines the advantages of a green and modern city at the foot of the Alps with excellent infrastructure and a strong network of business, education and ambitious start-ups. The city is a centre of research, development, business formation and innovation, not to mention a great place to live. Two rivers, the Limmat and Sihl, run through the city. Zurich’s sights, eye-wateringly pricey shops and effortlessly cool nightspots are in the Altstadt, a historic centre cut in two by the Limmat river which flows off the lake, crescent shaped lake curves past the wooded peaks of Pfannenstiel to the east and the Albis chain to the west. There are many ways to make the most of the lake, some we’ll go into more detail about later. But for convenience if you’re just ambling around the city, take the scenic promenade along the east shore in the Seefeld quarter. There you can look over to Uetliberg and see the hundreds of yachts and other craft breezing across the lake in summer. The promenade starts at Bellevue and extends for three kilometres down to Tiefenbrunnen.
